How for the greatest Mica Band Heaters

Mica Band Heaters are our most generally used band heater due to their versatile design and rugged construction characteristics. Mica Bands have sheath temperature capabilities around 800°F (425°C). Mica Bands are generally found in Plastics Injection Molding, Extrusion, Blow Molding applications as well as in Commercial Cooking, Electric and Dies Motors.

Mica insulated band heaters can be purchased in 1 or 2 piece construction and a variety of diameters and widths. One piece band heaters are produced with inside diameters from 1 to 31/2 inches. Two piece band heaters can be bought in diameters from 4 to 111/2 inches. Electrical connections are made through post terminals or insulated and stainless steel overbraided leads.

Each half of the two piece band heaters are rated 120 Volts, and they are wired in parallel for 120 Volt operation, or even in series for 240 Volt operation.

Options include different dimensions and terminals, special wattage or voltage ratings, flexible holes and conduit or cutouts. Two, or more sections can be manufactured to fit larger diameters. Contact Engineering to learn more.

When heating objects to higher temperatures, lower Watt density heaters should be used to prevent overheating and shortened heater life. Watt density may be the total wattage from the heater divided from the heated surface section of the heater. Utilize the table above to select the most recommended Watt density for the application. Lower Watt densities is possible by operating 240 Volt heaters on 120 Volts. When operating 240 Volt heaters on 120 Volts, the wattage and Watt density are derated by a factor.
